Lucknow: Royal Challengers Bangalore premier player Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir have been handed out hefty fines for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during the match between the two sides on Monday.

Virat and Gambhir were involved in a huge altercation after Bangalore clinched a victory over Lucknow in a low-scoring game.

Post-match visuals showed Gambhir and Virat engaging in an animated chat after he whisked away Kyle Mayers who had walked up to Virat and said something.

Despite this, tempers flared up between Gambhir and Virat. Few players who were around kept watching, but LSG Captain KL Rahul separated the two and had a chat later on.

In its release, the IPL said: “Lucknow Super Giants’ Mentor Gautam Gambhir has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Gambhir and Virat admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. They were handed a 100 per cent fine on their match fee.

LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq was also reprimanded by the IPL for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He was handed a 50 per cent fine on his match fee.
