Tripura police launch crackdown against thieves and drug users

Agartala: The security forces led by city police operation chief (SDPO Sadar) Ajoy Kumar Das arrested two thieves from the Chandrapur area of the city, who hailed from Bangladesh on Thursday night during a crackdown operation against the dacoit gang has been operating in Agartala and it’s surroundings.

According to police, the accused were identified as Zayed Hasan Rakib of Feni district and Mohammad Suman Sheikh of Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh and found they illegally entered India through Assam.

The primary investigation revealed that they have been involved in robberies and theft cases.

They were found roaming suspiciously by beat police near the Chandrapur bus stand and police detained them immediately. Police recovered some tools used for committing thefts and breaking locks from their possession.

“We are in the job to crack down on the entire gang and we appeal to the people to keep faith in the police. A special team was formed to track down anti-social elements, drug peddlers, and thieves disturbing public life in the city,” SDPO Das said, adding that police launched a special operation across the city against drug users and liquor consumers in open space.

Dr Manik Saha in the pre-puja review meeting with the administration and Durga puja organisers made the government’s intention clear that all efforts have been made to make the festival days liquor free, ensure secure movement of people round the clock during puja days and strong surveillance any bid to disturb peace and tranquillity.
