Salaries of Kashmiri Pandits protesting against targeted killings to stop

The administration has become strict towards the Kashmiri Pandits who are protesting against targeted killings in Jammu-Kashmir. The administration has released an order stating that the employees who were absent during the month of September will not receive their salaries. Kashmir’s Deputy Labour Commissioner, Ahmed Hussain Bhat, has asked for information related to the duty of all the Prime Minister’s Package employees, for July and August, from all the Assistant Labour Commissioners of the valley.

More than 4000 migrant Kashmiri Pandits have been protesting peacefully against the targeted killings in the union territory, for the last 134 days, and are demanding for the surety of safety and security from the government, and postings outside the valley. The government and the protestors have still not been able to reach a truce, despite their discussion related to the issue.

In the wake of the order issued to stop the workers’ salaries, their union has stated that the employees are demanding transfers, but heed is not being paid to their requests, and rather than solving the issue, action against the protestors is being taken. Earlier to this, the administration, in order to find a solution, had formed a special cell in the secretariat of the LG, and Additional Secretary, Akshay Labroo, was made the Nodal Officer.

The protesting employees have started a campaign to fill consent forms for transfer/attachment, to be sent to the office of the Relief Commissioner, Jammu. So far, 1500 employees have submitted their consent forms.
