BJP leader Savio Rodrigues came out in support of the villagers of San Jose De Areal who were opposing the erection of a mobile tower inside the premises of a government-run school, with over a 100-students in the village of Velim constituency.

Assuring the villagers of support and getting the government to stop work, Rodrigues in a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant, expressed the concerns raised by the villagers of a mobile tower in a school premises. He appealed that the Goa government look at an alternate site that the San Jose De Areal Panchayat had already selected.

“The people of Velim are not against a mobile tower. We understand the need for a mobile tower but it cannot be allowed inside a school premise. It is dangerous. Therefore, it was important for me to stand with my people and impress on my government to act in the interest of the people.”

Taking into consideration the appeal of the BJP leader, Sarpanch and the people of Velim, Goa CM has directed the concerned department to ensure that the mobile company stops work immediately and dismantle their existing construction of the mobile tower. Also the South Goa Collector and San Jose De Areal Panchayat have been told to finalise the alternate site for the mobile tower.
