The Royal Swedish Academy of Science has announced the Nobel honour for physics for this year. This year’s Nobel has been jointly awarded to 3 scientists, Alain Aspect, John F Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger. They were selected for this honour because of their research on quantum information science and photons. Last year too, 3 scientists had received the Nobel in the field of physics.

The committee said that the 3 scientists researched on entangled quantum status, in which two particles behave exactly the same way, and even if they are separated, their behaviour does not change. Not only will this research prove to be beneficial for new technology, but will also help in extending physics’ quantum information theory, and can pave way for the treatment of many serious illnesses.

If we talk about technology, then a new revolution can be brought using this research in the fields of quantum computers, quantum networks, and quantum encrypted communications. Quantum mechanics will also receive a new path of innovation.

While Alain Aspect is a professor at the Paris-Saclay University, France, John F Clauser is an American researcher, and Anton Zeilinger is the Head of Department, Physics, at the Vienna University, Australia.
