Stranded tourist dies on Kedarnath-Ransi trek

Dehradun/Rudraprayag: Two members of a West Bengal tourist team, who went on the Kedarnath-Ransi trek in Uttarakhand, got stuck midway leading to the death of one.

Unable to walk due to severe health conditions the two were stranded on the tracks on Monday evening.

State Disaster Response Force despatched SDRF rescue team on receiving information. While one was rescued the other was found dead. Both were brought back.

SDRF spokesperson Lalita Das Negi said on Tuesday that out of the total 10 members of the tourist team, eight along with porters had returned, while two got stuck there.

A search operation led by SDRF Chief Constable (Head Constable) Surendra Singh on foot in high altitude area under extreme conditions successfully brought back one.

While searching intensively, both the tourists were found among the icy rocks near Mahapanth, 6 km from Kedarnath, Negi said, adding that one of the two tourists was found dead while the other was in poor health.

After giving first aid to the sick person, the rescue personnel immediately rescued and admitted him to a hospital after reaching Kedarnath.

The rescued person was identified as Vikram Majumdar, 38, from 24 Parganas, while the other trekker was Alok Biswas, 34, from Saguna.
