Further revelations can now be made about the origin of human beings with the finding of the remains of Neanderthals in the Chagyrskaya and Okladnikova caves, and their genome sequencing. Recently, a report about the social life of the Neanderthals has been published by the Nature General. This report suggests that around 54, 000 years ago, Neanderthal families lived in caves in Russia.

The report further suggests that the women moved out of the caves more than the men. Old archaeological findings have determined that the Neanderthal was more advanced and efficient than thought to be earlier. They performed the last rites after one’s death and their weapons and jewellery were of high quality. Researchers have found heteroplasmy in Neanderthals, which passes from one to another after many generations.

Benjamin Peter of the Max Planck Institute has said that this study reveals the information of the Neanderthal community. DNA sequencing revealed that there was a total of 13 Neanderthals- 7 males and 6 females, 5 in the group were children. Out of the 13, 11 were found in the Chagyrska cave, amongst whom, many were of the same family. The research has also confirmed the relationship between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.
