Persons with disabilities need respect, empathy, encouragement and acceptance. Goa has shown the way in this regard. Yesterday Goa CM Dr Prasad Sawant unveiled a purple fest logo. Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in association with the Directorate of Social Welfare and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) is going to organise Purple Fest with the theme celebrating diversity from 6 to 8 January 2023.

CM Dr Pramod Sawant welcomed the initiative by stating, “Goa – a popular travel destination across the globe – is known for culture, nature, and culinary delights. From now Goa will gain further popularity as a favourite destination for Divyang.”

CM Dr Pramod Sawant is keen on making Goa the first state in India to host first of its kind inclusive festival for persons with disabilities. To make this festival as grand and successful as International Film Festival of India, he assured all the support.

Divyangs will no longer face any inconveniences as a number of hotels, government buildings, and other places will become accessible to ensure that persons with any disabilities can attend Purple Fest.

CM Dr Pramod Sawant congratulated Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai and Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar for organising a fest that embraces, expresses and celebrates trials and triumphs of Divyangs.

Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai took the stage by storm by announcing that success of Purple Fest is a foregone conclusion with as many as 2000 delegates having already registered in a span of first ten days of opening of registration for the festival.

The idea of Purple Fest is to create an inclusive and hospitable world for everyone. Goa – under the leadership of CM Dr Pramod Sawant and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai – has taken a lead and shown the way for the rest of the country that persons with disabilities have equal right to enjoy life and showcase their skills  to give a message that they belong amongst us. Where there is a political will there is a way.
