Kashmir remains cold, Drass at -15C

Srinagar: Cold conditions prevail in Kashmir Valley as the maximum temperatures plunged several notches while the minimum rose at many places due to an overcast sky.

In Ladakh, Drass recorded a minimum of minus 15 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The MeT forecast mainly dry weather over the plains of Jammu and Kashmir with very light rain at one or two places of higher elevations during the next 24 hours till Wednesday.

The cloud cover kept minimum temperatures near or above normal at most places in Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh.

Parts of the Valley including upper reaches and Ladakh experienced fresh snowfall on Monday that intensified cold conditions in the twin union territories.

Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius which was 4.3 degrees below normal while the maximum temperature dipped to 0.6 degree Celsius, nine degrees below normal for this time of the year.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar rose up by 3.3 degrees Celsius against the 1.2 degrees Celsius on Monday while the maximum was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius which was 7.9 degrees below normal.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir witnessed a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday which was 2.2 degrees below normal while the maximum was 9.4 degrees Celsius which was also 3.8 degrees below normal.

The maximum temperature recorded at Qazigund was 11.2 degrees Celsius that is five degrees lower than Monday’s, Kukernag 11.1 degrees Celsius (three degrees drop), and Kupwara 4.3 degrees Celsius, a drop of over 12 notches since yesterday, the MeT office said.
