The clash between Assam and Meghalaya is exacerbating, and because of the fear of the supply line with Assam getting cut, the people of Meghalaya have started hoarding essential goods in their homes. After 5 vehicles from outside the state were burnt down in Meghalaya, the Assam Petroleum Workers’ Union stopped the supply of fuel on Thursday. And this led to long queues of people at the petrol pumps in Meghalaya. Nevertheless, later on, the union rolled back its decision of stopping the fuel supply.

On Tuesday, on the border of the two states, 1 forest guard of Assam and 5 people of Meghalaya lost their lives in violence, and both the states have now appealed for a CBI inquiry in the matter. In the meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission with relation to the incident of violence. He has also assured the people of the state that there is no crisis of petrol and diesel in the state.

Out of 12 disputed areas, Assam and Meghalaya have reached a truce about 6, and in order to find a solution related to the other 6, the chief ministers of both the states will have to sit together and negotiate. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accepted that in the recent case of violence, the police were involved in wrongdoings.
