Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the government will not tolerate the indiscipline of taxi operators.

In his Liberation Day speech, the Chief Minister said the government wants taxi owners to be part of the tourism industry but strict action will be taken against those harassing tourists.

Earlier, speaking to reporters, he said some people were trying to take undue advantage of tourists but the government will not tolerate such things.

Meanwhile, Goa BJP Spokesperson Savio Rodrigues said grievances of taxi drivers, if any, cannot be solved with their repeated ‘Dadagiri’ behaviour.

‘The grievances, if any, of Goa Taxi Drivers cannot be solved with their repeated ‘Dadagiri’ behaviour. It cannot be an attitude of ‘My way or the highway’. Goa is a global tourist destination. Taxi drivers are an important stakeholder of a touristic experience in Goa,’ Rodrigues said in a tweet.

Recently, around 100 tourists, who had got down from a cruise ship, had to cancel their sight-seeing plans due to an incident in which a bus driver was allegedly assaulted by taxi operators.

The taxi operators had allegedly refused to allow the American tourists to board the bus for sight-seeing trips in the state.

The incident had attracted criticism from all quarters, including industry bodies.
