With increasing age, the body gets weak and a haven for illnesses, as a result of which, many a times, people require emergency medical treatments. But, in a study published in the American Journal of Managed Care, it has been revealed that 22% of the senior citizens in the USA are avoiding going to hospitals in situations of medical emergency in order to save money, and rather than going to hospitals, they prefer staying at home.

People aged between 50 and 60, women, people who do not have health insurance, and those whose salary is less than 30, 000 dollars, are doing this, looking at the high costs of medical treatment. Even those who have not faced a medical emergency of any kind are stressed about the expenses. With this research conducted on 2074 senior citizens aged between 50 and 80, it was found out that four out of every 5 of them is worried about the costs of an emergency treatment.

Out of whom 35% are slightly tensed while 45% are highly worried about the same. 18% reckon that they will not be able to afford the treatment. Many senior citizens, during the situation of an emergency, postpone the treatment, while others get it stopped midway. As a result of which, many senior citizens’ health is deteriorating due to the lack of treatment.
