Winter delayed: Average minimum temperature in 16 cities remained 11 degrees Celsius

While winters have finally struck, this year, there was a delay in the same. As a matter of fact, there are three phases of winters in the country, the first one is pre-peak winter (20 November-20 December), followed by peak winter (21 December-20 January), and lastly, post-peak winter (21 January-20 February). This year, November’s night temperature was 0.34 degree Celsius higher, the day temperature remained 0.29 degree Celsius higher, and the average temperature was 0.31 degree Celsius higher.

On 23 days out of December’s 26, the average minimum temperature remained at 24 degrees Celsius, and this month, the average maximum temperature did not fall below 28 degrees Celsius as well. For 14 days, temperatures higher than the average were recorded, and the day-time temperatures remained 2-7 degrees Celsius higher. In Delhi, this season’s coldest morning was recorded on 25th December, with a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, but the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.5 degrees Celsius, which was more than normal.

In December, the average maximum temperature remained to be 25 degrees Celsius across 16 cities, and the average minimum was 11 degrees Celsius. These cities are New Delhi, Jaipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Patna, Raipur, Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, Dehradun, Srinagar, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Chennai.
