Adhir Chowdhury leads Bengal unit Bharat Jodo Abhiyan- Sagar theke Pahar

Sagar Island (West Bengal): Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury
on Wednesday began state unit’s Bharat Jodo Abhiyan – Sagar Theke Pahare’- (From the sea to the mountain) to mark the old gand party foundation day (December 28, 1885).

Collecting the holy water in a kalas ( pot) from the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and Ganga and after a traditional ritual at the temple of Kapil Muni Ashram, Chowdhury and thousands of followers march the – Bharat Jodo- responding to the call of Rahul Gandhi, who is doing elsewhere in the country.

The Bengal march, which began from the terminal part of the southern district of North 24 Parganas, would end the most northern part of West Bengal’s Darjeeling hills, about 800 kms distance to be covered by the marchers.

Chowdhury, who is also Bengal unit president, said their journey began after hoisting the tri-colour to mark the party foundation day in which top ranking leaders and thousands of followers had assembled to witness the historical Bharat Jodo Abhiyan.

He said he was overwhelmed by the spontaneous enthusiasm of the common and local people, which are mainly agriculturists, the fishing community and the oppressed section of the society.
