PM performs last rites of mother Heeraben

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday performed the last rites of his mother Heeraben Modi here who passed away earlier around 3:30 am at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad.

The Prime Minister’s brother Somabhai Modi and other family members were also present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister, who reached here earlier in the day, consigned the mortal remains of his mother to flames along with his brothers.

Heeraben was hospitalised on Wednesday after her health deteriorated.

The Prime Minister recalled his mother saying that he always felt the trinity of a tapsvi’s journey, selfless Karmyogi and a life dedicated to values in her.

The Prime Minister also remembered her advice which she gave on her 100th birthday where she said work should be done with wisdom and life is to be lived with purity.

Political leaders from across the party spectrum expressed their grief on the demise of the Prime Minister’s mother.

Modi, who was to visit West Bengal on Friday, will now join the scheduled programmes via video conferencing, the PMO announced.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay foundation stone and dedicate to the nation projects worth over Rs 7,800 crore in West Bengal.
