Exotic species smuggled from Bangkok seized at airport

Chennai: Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) have seized Several exotic species from two trolley bags of an Indian passenger, who arrived from Bangkok at the
Anna International airport here recently.

The seized exotic species included pygmy marmoset, ball pythons, star tortoises and corn snakes, an official release today said.

The customs officials found two unattended trolley bags of a passenger, who arrived from Bangkok, near the baggage claim area.

The officials examined the baggage and found 45 ball pythons, three pygmy marmosets, two exotic star tortoises and eight corn snakes.

Subsequently, the officials deported all the animals back to Bangkok.

Further investigations are on, the release said.
