Asansol: A special CBI court here on Thursday remanded jail custody term to incarcerated Trinamool Congress leader for another two weeks after the Birbhum unit party president was being produced by the CBI for the further judicial process, court sources here said.
The next date of the hearing is February 3.
Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a 2020 cattle smuggling case on August 11, 2022. Mondal was picked up from his Birbhum residence by the federal agency after the politician allegedly skipped nearly ten summons for his appearance in the multi-crore rupees cattle smuggling case.
Court sources said the advocates appearing for Mondal did not file any bail petition, since such a prayer was filed in the Calcutta High court.
The CBI, which sought further jail term for Mondal, also submitted its latest reports of its
investigations of raids and seizure of documents of Benami properties.
Besides the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate is also probing the money trails of the cattle scam.
