New Delhi: The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack at the union government after the Enforcement Directorate reportedly conducted raids at various locations related to several leaders of its state unit of Chhattisgarh, and termed it as “vendetta politics”.

“In the last nine years, 95 per cent of the raids conducted by the ED are against Opposition leaders. Most of the raids are against Congress leaders. The raids on our Chhattisgarh Congress leaders by the Modi government by ‘misusing’ the ED shows the ‘cowardice’ of BJP,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote in a tweet.

He added, “Due to the immense success of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, the uneasiness of the BJP was visible.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Congress General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh at a press conference at the party headquarters here said, “Three day before our 85th Plenary Session (in Raipur), ED is conducting raids at the houses of several leaders of Cong in Chhattisgarh since 5 am. This is vendetta politics.”

Endorsing the Congress MP, party’s Chairman of Media and Publicity Department Pawan Khera slammed the ruling dispensation and also accused the probe agency of acting at its behest.

“Now, ED means ‘eliminating democracy’. In between 2004-14, when the UPA govt was in power, ED had conducted 112 raids. In the last nine yrs, it has carried out 3,010 raids,” he said.

Khera also claimed that the ED has conducted 95 per cent raids on Opposition.

The 85th Plenary Session of the Congress is scheduled to be held in Raipur from February 24 to 26.
