Hyderabad: Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day, was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety all over Telangana on Wednesday.
People thronged temples to offer special prayers on the Ugadi day. While several temples organised recitation of “panchangam” (almanac) to mark the festival.
Tasteful decoration of Hindu households with flowers, mango and neem leaves besides preparation of special Ugadi delicacies including the sweet-bitter Ugadi Pachadi which signifies the happy-sad phases of life was the highlight of the festival.
Shops selling fruits ,flowers and decorative items were crowded with people till late last evening.
A colourful Ugadi celebration was organised at Ravindra Bharathi which was attended by Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLAs, MLCs and among others.
Vedic pandits recited from the holy scriptures besides Panchangam (almanac).
Followed by felicitation of Vedic scholars, Priests, spiritualists .Kavita Goshsti at 1230 hours and Kavisammelanam at 1600 hours, official sources said.
Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has greeted people of the state on the occasion of ” Shobhakruthu Nama Samvatram Ugadi”.
In a message, the Governor said, “On this happy and auspicious occasion of Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day, I extend my warmest greetings to the people of Telangana and to the Telugu people across the World.
Ugadi is a festival of joy and hope and the New Year shall bring with it new cheer and a bright future.
I am confident that ” Sri Shobhakruthu Nama Samvatsaram” will usher in peace, prosperity, harmony, health and happiness to all people and sections of the society”, the Governor said.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (CM KCR) extended greetings to the people of Telangana State. In a message, the Chief Minister expressed hope that Ugadi, which is considered as an agricultural year, will bring good fortunes to the farmers and people in all fields.
The Chief Minister said that Telangana is flourishing with abundant irrigation water, drinking water and green crops. Rao said that by developing the agriculture sector, its allied sectors and professions strengthened and the Telangana state’s rural economy is sustaining.
The Chief Minister said that the progress achieved by Telangana has become a role model for the country. CM KCR wished Telangana and India will achieve development further in the year of Shubhakruth Nama.
