Bhubaneswar: Wearing black dresses and caps, congress members in Odisha Assembly on Monday disrupted the business of the house protesting against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha .

As soon as the house assembled for the day to take up the question hour, the congress members with black dresses trooped into the well of the house and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They shouted slogans describing the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Lok Sabha as highly undemocratic and a crush on democracy.

Speaker B K Arukh appealed to the agitated Congress members to go back to their seats and cooperate with the important business of the house.

But the congress members did not pay any heed to the appeal of the Speaker and continued their slogan shoutings inside the well.

Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed near to the podium and raised anti Modi slogans. His party colleagues also joined him leading to a ruckus.

As the house witnessed pandemonium ,the Speaker adjourned it at 10 32 hours till 1600 hours without transacting any business.

Earlier in the day Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Sarat Patnaik, also wearing black dress, came to the assembly and held a meeting with the party members where it was decided that the Congress will oppose the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi in the house.

Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati said the members on Monday wore black dress and black cape to observe the day as “Black Day” to save democracy which, he said is in great danger under the Modi led BJP government at the centre.

The party has also planned to organize a demonstration near the Raj Bhawan in the afternoon and appealed to other political parties to join the “save democracy” movement launched by the party.

The Congress will submit a memorandum to the Governor against the disqualification of Lok Sabha membership of Rahu Gandhi undemocratically.

The party had organized satyagrah on Sunday across the state on the issue and sat on dharna near the Gandhi statue in the state capital to lodge their protest .
