Islamabad: Pakistan will celebrate the golden jubilee of its constitution with national zeal and fervor, Speaker of National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said.
Talking to the media here on Thursday, Ashraf said that the building where the then National Assembly met and passed the constitution in 1973 will be declared a national asset by the government.
He said the joint session of the parliament will also be held in the same building on April 10 to commemorate the historic event of the passing of the constitution.
A monument will be constructed to depict the parliamentary and constitutional history of Pakistan in Islamabad, he added.
As part of the celebration, a three-day international convention will be convened in Islamabad and Pakistani-origin parliamentarians across the world have been invited to attend the event, he said.
Pakistan’s constitution was approved by its National Assembly on April 10, 1973, and was ratified on Aug. 14, 1973.
