Bijnor (UP): Mafia Aditya Rana alias Ravi, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on his arrest, was killed in an encounter in which five police personnel were also injured, a senior officer said here on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said that on Tuesday midnight Bijnor police had an encounter with Aditya Rana gang in which the mafia was taken into custody in injured condition. “Rana died during treatment in the hospital. Our five personnel were also injured in the firing and are undergoing treatment and their condition is stated to be stable,” he said.
He said that Aditya Rana was a mafia identified by the state government and had 43 cases of serious crimes registered against him. “Cases against him included 6 cases of murder and 13 of loot. A reward of Rs 2.50 lakh was announced on his arrest,” he said.
The SP said that Rana escaped from the police custody twice, once in 2017 and then in 2022 from Shahjahanpur. “48 members of his gang have been identified out of which 6 have been arrested and efforts are being made to arrest others. The Bijnor police are taking further legal action in the case,” he said.
Police sources said that late on Tuesday night the Special Operations Group (SOG) received a tip off that Aditya Rana and his gang members were present in the Budhanpur area. “The police cordoned off the area during which the criminals opened fire and one of them, who was later identified as Aditya Rana, sustained injury in retaliatory firing,” they said.
Police sources said that incharge of Seohara police station Rajiv Chaudhary, his shadow Ajay Fauji, SOG inspector Jaiveer Singh, police personnel Arun and Raees were injured during the encounter.
