New Delhi: Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and sought its response on former Delhi minister, Satyendra Jain’s plea seeking bail in money laundering case against him.

The Apex Court also granted him the liberty to move vacation bench of the top court with his plea, which challenged the Delhi High Court’s order dismissing his bail plea in the money laundering case against him.

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice A S Bopanna and also comprising Justice Hima Kohli issued notice to the ED and sought its reply.

Senior lawyer, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, accused, Jain, told the Supreme Court that I am in jail since last 1 year, and I have lost around 35 kgs weight in staying here. “Please consider it mylords,” Dr Singhvi pleaded to the Top Court and sought bail.

The CBI has already filed a chargesheet against Jain. The ED’s money laundering case against Jain pertains to hawala (illegal) transactions of five shell companies allegedly controlled by him. He and his close associates and family members are accused of buying 200 bighas of land in Delhi villages.
