CBI summons Bengal’s principal education secretary Manish Jain in alleged SSC scam

Kolkata: The anti-corruption unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued summons to Manish Jain, the principal education secretaryof West Bengal, in connection with the ongoing investigation into an alleged multi-crore rupee scam related to the recruitment of SSC teachers in the government schoolsacross the state, official sources said on Wednesday.

The summon notice was served on Tuesday asking the bureaucrat to appear before the investigation official at Nizam Palace at 11 am on Thursday.

The 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer has already undergone one round of interrogation by the CBI. Jain’s name allegedly surfaced during the interrogation of the arrested former state minister Partha Chatterjee.

According to the sources, Partha Chatterjee, a former minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet, has informed the central investigating agency that he used to sign whatever the education secretary had recommended to him.
