‘Red Alert’ in Rajasthan, Gujarat as Cyclone Biparjoy approaches

On Wednesday, June 14, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘Red Alert’ for the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat, citing that the cyclone which is about to hit the states can cause massive destruction. The effect of the cyclone will be seen most on June 16 and 17 in the state of Rajasthan. The landfall time of Cyclone Biparjoy has been informed to be between 4 to 8 PM in the evening of June 15, and currently, the cyclone is moving accurately according to predictions made earlier by the IMD.

It is being expected that the speed of the cyclone at the time it hits the land will be around 125-135 KM/hour. In coastal areas, the cyclone will result in high tides of 2-3 metres, as the landfall of the cyclone will take place in the Saurashtra coast, affecting the same, the Kutch coast, and 8 districts of Kutch, Gujarat. Rainfall up to 20 CM is expected to take place as the cyclone hits the state of Gujarat and then moves towards Rajasthan.

In order to arrange all the necessary precaution, 18 NDRF teams in Gujarat are ready, 4 in Kutch, 1 each in Dwarka, Porbandar, Somnath, Morbi, Gandhinagar, Valsad, and Junagadh, 3 in Rajkot, and 2 in Jamnagar.

The Cyclone Biparjoy was created in the Arabian Sea on June 6.
