On Saturday, June 24, a delivery agent and his associate were allegedly robbed of Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint, by four masked men, inside the Pragati Maidan Tunnel, New Delhi. A 21-second video clip, which is a CCTV footage, capturing the crime, is now doing the rounds on social media, wherein the robbery can be seen taking place in broad daylight. The video shows how four culprits, riding on two bikes, waylaid a car, with at least one of the men brandishing a firearm, while another opened a gate of the car and they took off after taking a bag out.

New Delhi DCP Pranav Tayal revealed, “The delivery agent, Patel Sajan Kumar, who worked at Omiya Enterprises, Chandni Chowk, filed the written complaint at Tilak Marg police station. According to his complaint, he and his associate, Jigar Patel, were on their way to Gurugram to deliver a bag of cash.

The police also said that the duo hailed an Ola cab at around 2.30 in the afternoon from the Red Fort area. The robbery then took place at 3.05 PM, as mentioned in the FIR. An FIR under section 397 (robbery) has been filed in the case, and no arrests have been made yet.

In the light of this crime which has taken place in the national capital, the ‘AAP government vs the Delhi LG’ duel has risen once again, with the AAP government attacking the latter over the law-and-order situation in Delhi. Following the robbery incident, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has asked for the resignation of Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said, “Make way for someone who can provide safety and security to the people of Delhi. If the central government is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show you how to make a city safe for its citizens”.

Delhi cabinet minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The Delhi LG has been given the power to handle law and order, police, and land by the Constitution, but apart from these subjects, he is interested in every other area”.

“Delhi will be hosting the G-20 summit in some days. It hosts international events regularly; be it trade fairs or exhibitions. In such a high-profile VIP area, the occurrence of armed robbery points to the fact that criminals have no fear of the law. It is not a question that the police were not there. Police can’t be present everywhere. There should be fear of law”, Bharadwaj expressed.

As per him, the LG is answerable and accountable to the people of Delhi.
