PM Modi bats for Uniform Civil Code

Addressing BJP booth-workers from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Tuesday, June 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a strong stand for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country. He said that UCC is envisioned in the Constitution of India, and the Supreme Court has asked for its implementation as well. PM Modi added that the UCC is now being used to mislead and provoke the Muslim community.

“How can the country run on two laws? The Constitution also talks about equal rights. The Opposition is playing vote-bank politics, but the BJP has decided that it will not adopt the path of appeasement and vote bank. Those supporting triple talaq are doing grave injustice to Muslim daughters”, expressed PM Modi in Bhopal.

Questioning the practice of triple talaq further, PM Modi said, “Triple talaq was abolished in Egypt 80-90 years ago. If it is necessary, then why has it been abolished in Pakistan, Qatar, and other Muslim-dominated nations? Triple talaq does not just do injustice to daughters, entire families get ruined. If triple talaq is an essential part of Islam, then why was it banned in countries like Qatar, Jordan, and Indonesia?”

Talking about Pasmanda Muslims, the Prime Minister expressed that the community has suffered and has been forced to struggle as the empowered Muslims have deprived them of their rights.

Taking a dig at the opposition parties of the country, PM Modi said that the opposition parties are divisive, and want to thrive on the politics of appeasement, which is causing social rifts. He further said that the BJP does not sit inside air-conditioned rooms and issue diktats, but braves harsh weather to be with the people.

“There is a difference between ‘tushtikaran’ and ‘santushtikaran’, and the BJP believes in the latter”, added Modi.
