New Delhi: Members of Parliament of I.N.D.I.A. alliance (bloc) on Friday boycotted the Lok Sabha proceedings against the suspension of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and said it was “illegal and undemocratic” decision.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge along with other MPs also held a protest outside the Parliament.

Speaking to the media, Mallikarjun Kharge said the suspension of Adhir Ranjan Choudhary is illegal and undemocratic and the Congress party will fight it out inside and outside Parliament.

He said, “They want to suppress democracy and don’t want to function as per the Constitution… adding that is why, all of us from all parties are protesting here. We will continue to fight against their illegal deeds…To keep the democracy alive we will fight both inside and outside Parliament”.

On Thursday, the leader of the opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, was suspended from the Lok Sabha over “misconduct” and allegedly attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and disturbing the Ministers, while speaking during the non-confidence motion.

The motion for Mr Chowdhury’s suspension was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Prahlad Joshi stated that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury repeatedly interrupted the PM and other Ministers and made baseless charges in his speeches.

He then moved a motion that the house refer the “gross, deliberate and repeated misconduct” of Chowdhury to its Privileges Committee for further examination.

This was the first time that the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha was suspended.
