In a bizarre claim made on Monday, August 28, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, talked about her apprehensions of the ruling BJP holding the Lok Sabha elections prior to the scheduled time, in December 2023 or in January 2024. She has further claimed that the Centre is trying to gain control over the structure of the Election Commission of India.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the foundation day of the TMC’s student wing, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, Banerjee said, ‘I have doubts that the voting for the Lok Sabha elections can take place this year in December, or in January the next year. Everything is possible for the BJP to do. Remember, if the BJP remains to be in power, the country will be led towards complete dictatorship.’

‘They have also removed the name of the Chief Justice of India from the panel which appoints the Chief Election Commissioner, and the Election Commissioners. They want to gain autonomy on everything.’, expressed Mamata.

The West Bengal CM also stated that the first mission of her life was to end the 34-year rule of the Communists in West Bengal, which she accomplished in 2011. Now, her mission is to end the BJP’s rule, for which she is working strongly.
