Shooting: India bag two golds led by Sift Kaur Samra at Asian Games 2023

Hangzhou: So far, shooting brought two gold medals and a bronze in sailing on Day 4 of the Asian Games 2023 here on Wednesday. Sift Kaur Samra clinched the gold medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s individual final by a whopping 7.3 points and Vishnu Saravanan won bronze in sailing.

The 22-year-old Samra scored a total of 469.6 points to shatter the world record in the event.

Meanwhile, Ashi Chouksey settled for a bronze medal with 451.9 points. She was in silver medal contention, however, lost out to China’s Zhang Qiongyue in the standing elimination round at Hangzhou.

The Indian duo had bagged the silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s team event earlier today.

In the men’s skeet team event, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, Gurjoat Singh Khangura and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka claimed the bronze medal with a combined score of 355. The 25-year-old Anant Jeet Singh Naruka also made the men’s individual skeet final after qualifying fourth.

The women’s skeet events, on the other hand, did not see Indians make the individual final or win a team medal.

India’s medal tally at the Asian Games 2023 now stands at 19.

Meanwhile, Indian shooters Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan clinched the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event. They finished with a score of 1759 after the precision and rapid rounds to beat China and the Republic of Korea to the top step of the podium.

Two shooters also made the individual final of the same event. Manu Bhaker qualified first, Esha Singh finished fifth and Rhythm Sangwan finished seventh.

The Indian 50m rifle 3 positions women’s team of Ashi, Manini and Samra finished with a score of 1764 in the final to win the silver medal. China clinched gold while the Republic of Korea settled for bronze.
