Chennai: Slamming the BJP-led government at the Centre for allegedly hacking the phones of Opposition party leaders, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K.Stalin said this showed that the BJP was feared of losing the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and that it was scared of the INDIA bloc.

Speaking at the marriage function of DMK MLA’s daughter here, he also termed as ‘farcical’, the Centre ordering an inquiry into it after being party to such heinous acts.

The recent alerts sent by tech giant Apple to several top Opposition leaders, including
Congress President Mallikharjuna Kharge and CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury, that the
company’s digital devices used by them might have been targeted by ‘state-sponsored
attackers’ were an indication that the BJP was scared of the Opposition INDIA bloc.

Stating that there was a question now whether democracy would be safeguarded and
preserved in the country, he slammed the BJP for misusing investigation agencies like
the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department to intimidate the Opposition
parties or anyone who opposed it.

The situation has reached a point where even phones were being tapped, he charged. .
