G7 Foreign Ministers to meet in Tokyo

Tokyo: Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven industrialized economies will meet in the Japanese capital for two days starting Tuesday to discuss a number of international affairs.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the group, will host her counterparts from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.

Italian Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, whose country will take over from Japan in 2024, said ahead of the trip to Tokyo that it was important to “reaffirm the G7 centrality in addressing the most important challenges of our time.”

Apart from the conflict between Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas, the ministers are expected to discuss the fighting in Ukraine, the ongoing power struggle in the Asia Pacific, and North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
