Washington: US President Joe Biden spoke by telephone with Argentine President‑elect Javier Milei.
He discussed the importance of continuing to build strong bilateral relations between the United States and Argentina, the White House said on Wednesday.

“The two leaders discussed the importance of continuing to build on the strong relationship between the United States and Argentina on economic issues, on regional and multilateral cooperation, and on shared priorities, including advocating for the protection of human rights, addressing food insecurity and investing in clean energy,” the statement said.

Biden congratulated Milei on his election and applauded the electoral process as a testament to the strength of Argentina’s democratic institutions, it added.

On Sunday, far-right libertarian Milei won the run-off presidential election in Argentina. He is scheduled to officially take office on December 10. Milei advocates ditching the national currency for the US dollar and a foreign policy oriented towards Israel and the United States. He is also against joining BRICS.
