Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with United Arab Emirates (UAE) leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan steps to establish a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the Turkish leader’s office said.

“The sides discussed, during Friday’s phone call, Israeli attacks on Gaza, efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in the region, Turkey’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and steps being made to achieve peace,” the office said.

It said that during the talks, Erdogan said it is important to stop Israel as soon as possible and resolutely continue the steps made to ensure a permanent ceasefire.

“President Erdogan stressed that to ensure peace in the region, it is necessary to carefully implement the decisions made at the joint summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States and continue initiatives to increase international support for Palestine in the spirit of unity,” the statement said.
