New Delhi: YSR Telangana Party chief YS Sharmila on Thursday formally merged her party with the Congress party at a ceremony held at AICC headquarters here.

Sharmila was welcomed into the party by Congress president Mallikarjun Karge and Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi.

I am merging my YSR Telangana Party with Indian National Congress as I know the Congress is the only party that will uphold the aspirations of all the section of the society. From today, YSR Telangana Party will not be a separate party but will be Congress Party “.

Appreciating Rahul Gandhi, Sharmila said that Gandhi has worked really hard during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. “My father the legendary late YS Rajasekhar Reddy served the Congress throughout his life. It was the dream of my father, to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country,” she added.

Speculation of Sharmila joining the Congress grew when she arrived in the National Capital yesterday and hinted at joining the grand old party. It may be mentioned that during the recently held Telangana election, she had supported the Congress party.
