Bamboo to be cultivated over 10 lakh hectares in Maha: Shinde

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday asserted that ten lakh hectares of bamboo cultivation will be undertaken in the state in the near future.

He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of the first Environmental Sustainability Summit at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan Auditorium here.

He said reducing carbon emissions is very important in today’s climate change era. Bamboo planting is a good option for that.

Shinde said, currently the cycle of nature is changing and problems like unseasonal rains are there. “All this is happening due to environmental change. Conservation of environment is the only solution for this. The government is trying to reduce carbon emissions,” he added.

As a part of it, bamboo planting activities have been undertaken. According to experts, one bamboo produces 320 kg of Oxygen and absorbs a lot of carbon, he said.

A subsidy of Rs 7 lakh per hectare is given for bamboo cultivation, he said.
