Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday began fresh raids in at least seven places in and around this metropolis in relation to the alleged teachers recruitment scam in the government sponsored across West Bengal, official sources said.

The Federal agency, conducting the scam following a Calcutta high court order, started raids simultaneously at seven places in and around Kolkata since morning.

Raids are being held at the residences and offices of those who allegedly acted as middlemen, including Prasanna Roy in the scam.

These middlemen used to collect money and transfer it to various addresses.

Aided by a large number of armed central forces (CRPF), the ED sleuths began search operations at New Town and Nayabad on the eastern fringes of Kolkata.

Roy, accused of a being middleman in the scam for alleged recruitment of the unqualified candidates as his recommendation to the actual recruitment authorities meant the money was transferred for the same, sources added. Roy was arrested from a starred hotel at New Town by the CBI on August 26,2022, was released on bail by a supreme court order.
