Ghaziabad (UP): Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday termed the electoral bonds as the biggest extortion scheme in the world and alleged that the entire country knows that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the “champion of corruption”.

In a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, the Congress leader said, “Recently the PM gave a long interview, which was scripted and a flop show. The PM tried to explain that electoral bonds were brought for transparency and to cleanse the politics. If it’s true then why this system was scrapped by the Supreme Court.”

He said, “The second thing is that if they wanted to bring it for transparency then why did they hide the names of those who gave thousands of crores of rupees to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and why did they hide the dates.”

Rahul Gandhi said that it came to the fore that a company gave money immediately after it got a contract of thousands of crore rupees. “Or the company paid the money after an inquiry by the CBI or ED was launched and the case was closed after a few days. This is called extortion on the road,” he said.

He said, “This is the biggest extortion scheme in the world. It doesn’t matter how much clarification the PM gives because the entire country knows that the PM is a champion of corruption.”
