Controversial YouTuber Savukku Shankar detained under Goondas Act

Chennai: Controversial Youtuber A.Shankar alias ‘Savukku’ Shankar, who was arrested
in multiple cases, was detained under the Goondas Act.

The detention orders under the Goondas Act, passed by Greater Chennai City Police
Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore on Sunday evening, was served on him at the
Coimbatore Central Prison where he was lodged.

He was arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on a complaint from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for tarnishing its image and reputation using false information in a media interview.

A police release here said “On the complaint of a CMDA officer, a case was registered against Shankar @ Savukku Shankar, (48), in the Central Crime Branch, Cyber Crime Police Station of Greater Chennai Police He was arrested and remanded in this case and he is currently lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.”

“As per the orders of Mr Sandeep Rai Rathore Savukku Shankar was detained under the Goondas Act. The Goondas detention order has been served to Shankar @ Savukku Shankar in Coimbatore prison by the Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime, CCB of GCP.”

There are seven cases including the aforementioned case are pending against Shankar
of which three cases are under Investigation, Charge sheets have been filed in 2 cases, the remaining two cases are Pending Trial, the release said.

Shankar had been arrested earlier also for his controversial remarks in his YouTube channel.
