New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the Opposition will support the Government’s Speaker choice if the Deputy Speaker post is given to the Opposition.

Addressing the media in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi said, “I came to know through newspaper that Prime Minister has asked the Opposition to cooperate with the government constructively.

“Kharge ji got a call from Rajnath Singh ji asking to support the Speaker. The entire Opposition said that we will support the Opposition but the convention is that the Deputy Speaker’s post should be given to the Opposition.”

“Last evening Rajnath Singh ji had said that he will call back Kharge ji but till now Rajnath Singh ji has not called back Kharge ji. On one hand Modi ji speaks of constructive Opposition and on the other hand he is insulting our leader,” the former Congress president said.

The Rae Bareli MP said that it is clear that the Prime Minister does not want any constructive Opposition. If the Government gives the Deputy Speaker’s Post to Opposition, the Opposition will fully support the Speaker.
