New Delhi: Telecom spectrum auction has ended on a subdued note with the government earning about Rs 11,000 crore from sale as large part of spectrum remained unsold, sources said.
The Government had put on sale 10,522.35 MHz of spectrum in various bands valuing Rs 96,238.45 crore at reserve prices. Spectrum band for which telecom operators participated include – 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz.
Sources said that telecom operators bought spectrum only in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz which was required to expand and continue their operations.
On the day 1 yesterday, 5 rounds were completed. As the auction resumed today on day 2 there was no demand after first round and as per the rules of the auction it ends as soon as there is no further demand to go the next round.
Exact details of spectrum bought by respective operators and revenue for the government are awaited.
