Ragging: 5 students of HP’s Bahra Varsity arrested

Solan: Five students of Bahra University at Waknaghat in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh have been arrested for ragging another student in the hostel, police said on Thursday.

Initially, three of the culprits were arrested under The Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009 on Tuesday and the other two were picked up on Thursday, police said.

Superintendent of Police, Solan, Gaurav Singh said they were investigating if the accused have any previous criminal record.

Earlier, a student of the varsity had complained to police that he was dragged out of his hostel room on Saturday and ragged and beaten by five students.

After the registration of police case, the university administration rusticated all five students named by the victim.

Some students of the hostel have also sought action against the hostel warden for alleged laxity.
