Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday initiated search operations in six locations, including the property of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress MLA Sudipto Roy, in connection with alleged financial irregularities at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, official sources said.

The federal agency started search operations at Roy’s home at Sinthi in north Kolkata and his nursing home, a medical equipment and medicine shop at Ballygunge Circular Road in the southern part of the city, as also some other places.

Roy, an MLA from Serampore in the neighbouring Hooghly district, was the chairman of the dissolved Rugi Kalyan Samity (patients welfare committee) in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH).

Sources said the ED sleuths fanned out in groups and began search operations after the Calcutta High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged financial scam in RGKMCH, transferring the case from Kolkata Police on August 22.

The CBI has already arrested the former RGKMCH principal, his private security personnel, and two vendors in connection with the alleged scam. The CBI also arrested Ghosh and Tala Police station officer in-charge Abhijit Mondal as part of its probe into the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old lady medic at the hospital on August 9.
