Bengaluru:  Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed surprise over his wife Parvati’s decision to return plots of land granted as compensation for property seized in Mysore, citing the psychological toll the controversy has taken on her, a social media post said on Tuesday.

Siddaramaiah revealed that while he had intended to fight the allegations of wrongdoing in Mysore Urban Development Authority plot allotment, Parvati’s decision to relinquish the land had come unexpectedly, especially given her non-involvement in his four-decade-long political career.

In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said his wife had become a victim of what he called a “political conspiracy” orchestrated by the Opposition parties.

“The people of the state also know that the Opposition parties created a false complaint and dragged my family into the controversy to create political hatred against me,” Siddaramaiah stated, adding that his wife has endured significant “psychological torture” as a result.

Despite his determination to resist what he described as “injustice,” Siddaramaiah acknowledged and respected his wife’s decision, while lamenting the emotional burden the controversy has placed on her.

The proposed return of the land has further fuelled the political storm, with Opposition parties intensifying their attacks on the Chief Minister ahead of the upcoming elections in Karnataka.
