Mumbai: The Maharashtra Congress on Friday said the first list of candidates for the coming Assembly election, being circulated in social media, is fake.

The list, signed by Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, included 15 prominent names of Congress leaders.

The party clarified that the list is fake. It is not clear how the list was released, but the list is not official, the leaders said.

The party has urged the voters to wait for the official announcement of the candidate list and not to believe in the rumours. The Congress is expected to release its first list of candidates for Maharashtra elections on Saturday, October 19.

Leader of opposition in state assembly Vijay Waddetiwar, while talking to the media, said Congress has finalized names for 30 constituencies, while six names will be finalized soon.

He also said the current party candidate list under circulation on social media is fake.

As polling dates for the Maharashtra assembly elections come close, the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance partners are engaged in final rounds of seat-sharing.
