Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Poland on Thursday to discuss the conflict in Ukraine with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, following a meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris last week.

“The head of state will hold talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on European support for Ukraine in the new transatlantic context, as well as in connection with Poland’s presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2025,” the Elysee Palace said.

The French president will “share the results of his discussions” with Trump and Zelenskyy during their “short but important” meeting, the Polish prime minister’s office said.

Trump after that meeting, timed to coincide with the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, called for an immediate ceasefire and start pf talks, adding that Ukraine had “ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers.” Later, in an interview with NBC News, Trump said Ukraine should “probably” prepare to receive less aid from the new US administration.

A meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, with the participation of Macron, took place in Paris on December 7.
