For the fifth day, Kuki militants fired on villagers of Imphal East at Thamnapokpi, Shantikhongbal, Sanasabi, and Sabungkhok Khunou areas.

So far, a Manipur police personnel, a villager, and a journalist were injured in the firing by Kuki militants.

Villagers of about six villages have fled the area and were taking shelter in relief centres opened by various organisations.

A media team covering the incident has to take shelter as Kuki militants were using long-range snipers and rockets to attack them.

The villagers protested the inaction of security personnel who were operating in the area from where attacks were launched.

A confrontation ensued between police and security personnel when central security personnel blocked the main road.

Manipur CM N Biren said on a social media platform, Strongly condemn the indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East, which injured civilians and security personnel. This cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives is an assault on peace and harmony. Adequate security personnel have been rushed to the affected areas.

The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the government calls for calm and unity in the face of such challenges. Central forces and state police should have proper coordination and understanding when dealing with such situations.’
