Tunisian, Italian parliamentary leaders discuss bilateral ties, migration

Tunis: Tunisian Parliament Speaker Ibrahim Bouderbala met on Friday with Italy’s Senate President Ignazio La Russa in Tunis to strengthen bilateral relations, according to a statement from the Tunisian parliament.

The two officials praised the strong ties between Tunisia and Italy, underscoring the historical and geographical links that have fostered close cooperation across various sectors. They highlighted recent mechanisms and strategies aimed at enhancing collaboration.

Discussions focused on deepening cooperation and friendship by increasing visits and meetings between parliamentarians and sharing experiences and expertise.

The meeting also addressed shared concerns, including efforts to tackle illegal immigration. Both sides emphasized the need for coordinated efforts at bilateral and multilateral levels to promote the security and stability of Mediterranean nations, according to the statement.

The statement added that the two parliament leaders called for a comprehensive approach to combat illegal immigration by addressing its root causes and promoting sustainable development.
