Imphal: Manipur BJP MLAs were on Tuesday holding talks to choose the next state Chief Minister after the resignation of N Biren Singh.

N Biren resigned on Sunday, and has been asked to continue as caretaker Chief Minister till a replacement is announced. BJP leader Sambit Patra was holding talks with BJP MLAs on the issue.

Manipur is passing through a political and constitutional crisis as the state Assembly session scheduled from Feb 10 has also been suspended. As per rules, there cannot be a gap of six months between two Assembly sessions, and the last session ended on Aug 12, 2024. All eyes are on the next move of BJP central leaders to tide over the crises.

The NPP, which has six MLAs, has announced it would again support the BJP-led government in Manipur as N Biren Singh has resigned. The NPP had withdrawn support demanding N. Biren’s resignation,

Sources said the BJP MLAs were divided into two different groups, and a consensus was yet to be reached to elect a new leader. The source further said all the BJP MLAs may meet in New Delhi on Wednesday to choose a new leader.
