Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha that CBI investigation of all the sensational cases including the murder of two journalists in 2017 and multi-crore chit fund cases of the state would be expedited in a time-bound manner.

Dr. Saha, who has been visiting Delhi for the last few days, said on Monday that in his meeting with Shah, they had an elaborate discussion on the pending CBI investigation into as many as 40 cases in a few years, which created confusion among the victims and cut a sorry figure for the premier investigating agency.

The Chief Minister requested Shah to ask the investigation agency to expedite the probe and bring the cases to a legal or logical conclusion. The most prominent cases that were given special mention by the Chief Minister were related to the murders of two journalists – Sudip Datta Bhowmik and Santanu Bhowmik, Bardhaman Pharma cases, corruption cases of NIT Agartala, and cheating cases against Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC).

“Virtual stoppage of the investigations by CBI not only deprived the families of getting justice, but also cast a sense of ‘let down’,” Dr. Saha pointed out.

The union home minister said that he was well aware of some of the cases and that he would look into the matter as requested and ask the CBI to expedite the probes.
